Perseus and Medusa Trail- Development

 Mind Map

This is a mind map to find a work surrounding my idea for the trail. Similar to how Trentham Estate have done a trail previously. I want the children to follow the story of Perseus and Medusa around the Italian gardens, making it as educational and fun. To help defeat Medusa the children will have to find the spelling of the word through the answers of the questions asked throughout the trail. Out of all of these words I decided to pick two to go ahead with. This was because I thought these words weren’t too guessable so that as the children go through the trail they are still interested in the words.

S H I E L D

Illustrations inspired by the story of Perseus and Medusa

As I was completing Inktober this week, I thought I could link a few days with the trail I'm developing. This first illustration was inspired by the word "Ruins". This isn't my favourite illustration inspired by Perseus and Medusa, however, it allowed me to think of whether I want to include the settings in the trail, or jus stick to the characters.

This day is subtly inspired by the Gorgons in the story. On the shelf next to potions, there is an eye and a tooth. Both of these items is what the Gorgons have to share. In the trail I will definitely include easter eggs like the tooth and eye throughout. This is because it will make the trail easier for the children to complete and if they are stuck they can look at the signs and the characters.

This is my final illustration I did in inktober that links to Perseus and Medusa. I wanted to attempt to draw a reflection in the shield. As I would like to recreate this illustration in the future for one of the signs, I will make it more obvious that it is a reflection of Medusa. I really enjoyed illustrating her face as I wanted it to appear geometrical. This is so that children are able to identify her as being the 'bad guy" in the trail and it's their job to stop her.
