Perseus and Medusa Trail: Researching the story

Image
The Story of Perseus and Medusa https://www.britannica.com/topic/Perseus-Greek-mythology Perseus is the son of Zeus and Danae.  Danae is the daughter of Acrisius of Argos Acrisius casted Perseus and his mother in to the sea in a chest.  Where the chest landed was with Polydectes of Seriphus. He desired Danae so he tricked Perseus into promising to obtain the head of Medusa.  Medusa is the only mortal gorgon.  Perseus was aided by Athena and Hermes on his quest. They persuaded Graiae (one of the sisters of the Gorgons) into helping him. This was by seizing the one eye and one tooth the gorgons shared and not returning it until he had winged sandals (to fly), the cap of Hades (invisibility), a curved sword (to decapitate Medusa) and a bag to conceal the head.  Because of Medusa's gaze turning all who looked at her to stone, Perseus decided to guide himself through by her reflection. He did this by the shield given to him from Athena.  He beheaded M...

Children's Book: Researching Educational Books

Image
Fantastically Great Women who changed the World Written by Kate Pankhurst (descendent of Emmeline Pankhurst)  Reading Age: 5-7 years Print Length- 32 pages  4.8/5 on Amazon. 5/5 on Waterstones. 4.5 on GoodReads  Review 1 Review 2 The first educational children's book I wanted to research was "Fantastically Great Women who changed the World" written by Kate Pankhurst. The reviews for this book are outstanding. This is due to the author raising awareness of the movements women have started in history. It is engaging throughout and never becomes overly preachy about women's equality. I have attached to this blog two reviews that explain how inspirational this book is to girls aged 5-7 and how it teaches the parents reading it too! This is the outcome that I would like to finish my own story with.  Greta and the Giants  Written by Zoe Tucker and illustrated by Zoe Persico  Reading age: 4-7 years  Print Length: 32 pages  4.7/5 on Amazon. 5/5 on Waterst...

Perseus and Medusa Trail: Research and Development- Trentham Estate

Image
Mood b oard   Research  - Trentham website 1086  Estate was first recorded in the Domesday book. In order of William the conquerer- the Domesday book was the great survey of Wales and England.  It is described as the Royal Manor and was worth 115 shillings.  An augustinian priory originally occupied the site followed by a convent. Trentham priory occupied the land until the Dissolution of Monasteries.  Originally a priory site- the Estate moved into private ownership when the church devolved. It was sold in 1540 to James Leveson and the estates first hall was built in 1599 on the priory ruins. It was replaced by Richard Leveson in 1633 in an Elizabethan style mansion.  The largest yew trees in the Italian gardens appear to be from the Elizabethan period.  "Look at the girth of the trunks and their grid like layout characteristic within a walled enclosure. At this time there was a church yard.  1 metre = 100 years Charles Bridgeman influe...

Children's Book- Orangutan Development

Image
Brainstorming saying and words to go into the book My initial idea is to make the book surrounding around the orangutans plan to fit in with different animals in the borneo forest. What first made me think of this idea because of personal experience of trying to fit in. I want this story to follow the orangutans journey of self acceptance and understanding that he can be special too.  Most children's books use rhyming couplets throughout so throughout this negotiated programme I will continue to develop sayings and verses that go with the story and are fun and interesting to say.  I wanted to create animals that are native in Borneo and have special features and bright colours that the Orangutan is attracted to.  Here are some examples of the orangutans I've been developing for this project. For a children's book I definitely want to use bright colours and fun textures in the character design of the Orangutan.  Heres the orangutan in the Borneo Forest backgroun...
