Children's Book- Development
I decided to start drawing my characters I designed earlier in conversation with each other. While redrawing them together I realised that the rhinoceros looked more appealing to children when it's eyes were bigger and wider. I really like this digital illustration I created of the orangutan and the rhinoceros as they look like they are getting along and the bright blue and orange next to the blue-grey and brown don't overpower each other- this was something I was afraid of going into creating a story.
I then moved on to the background design. Similar to previous one, I knew I wanted to use green for continuity. I also believe that if I stick to one colours, using different shades of it, it wouldn't be too distracting for the children reading the story. The way I drew the leaves in on the trees in this illustration allows the jungle to look packed and filled with life. Using the plants in the foreground also helps with this too.
I decided to place the characters on top of the background and it looks colourful, bright and appealing without being distracting. This is the exact outcome I wanted. When I develop the next couple of illustrations, I will take this experiment into account.
